South played Tranmere in November 1972 and lost 2-0 with an early goal from Eddie Flood and a late goal from Malcolm Moore giving Rovers the path to Round 2 where they lost 2-1 to Bradford City.

LANCASHIRE FA YOUTH CUP WINNERS

South Liverpool FC Lancashire County FA Youth Cup Winners 1972/73. South beat Southdene (Kirkby) 1-0 in the final at Burscough with a second half Steve Daly penalty settling the game.  South retained the Trophy the following year defeating Wigan Athletic again at Burscough and again 1-0, that goal coming from Steve Moore.  

 

The asst coach on the left was Les Parry (in blue) back row, on the other end of the back row was Joby Humphries who was our coach. Front row extreme right was team secretary Mr Alan Bartlam now chairman of Vauxhall Motors FC

Here the lads are celebrating. From left to right is John Kane, Richard Budgen Paul Raven, Chris Daley, next our keeper and on the right our leading goal scorer John Ravenscroft.

Who though is the keeper? It is none other than our Assistant Manager and club vice chairman Billy Birch. We won 1-0 via a 20th minute penalty converted by Chris Daley.

Our team that night was Billy Birch, Richard Budgen, Steve Short, John Cain (capt) Mick O’Boyle, Steve Moore, Joe Hinnigan, Chris Daley, Paul Thomas, John Ravenscroft, Paul Raven. Sub Steve Woodcock who was used.
